Total Antwerp and Magion have a good relationship and also a long history of cooperation in the field of "Production Intelligence" and "Process Automation". Thanks to our extensive knowledge of data historian systems and related applications in the downstream oil and gas industry, Magion again has successfully upgraded the OSIsoft PI system of Total Refinery Antwerp (to version 2016 R2).
A PI upgrade typically follows a number of logical steps which can be defined as:
• Mapping the existing architecture with all its interfaces and applications;
• Drafting an installation, configuration and migration plan;
• Execute migration and upgrade of the various servers (without loss of production data);
• Testing and put into production of the new servers.
It is characteristic of Magion that this upgrade, to reinforce the TOTAL PI-infrastructure, was carried out with minimal impact on the end-users. Furthermore, the upgraded PI system has been very stable since it went into production.
In fact, all upgrades and technical improvements have as result that the fastest PI server within the worldwide organization of TOTAL, is now operated by the refinery in Antwerp. Their platform is the current reference in terms of PI-infrastructure within TOTAL.
This allows the numerous end-users to work with faster PI reports, PI Processbooks trends and PI supported applications.
Since Magion has a lot of experience in this type of work, the client has been able to count on an impeccable project execution which was executed on time and within budget. Certainly, the perfect collaboration between TOTAL and Magion teams have positively contributed to the success of this project.
